I have been painting and drawing since leaving school in the sixties. After studying Graphics at Hornsey College of Art London 1964-68, I worked for several design groups before starting my own design company, ‘Three’s Company’, creating illustrated books in Covent Garden in 1978. In 2000-3 I studied fine art at the Chelsea School of Art.
In 2007 I decided to live in France in Sorrus and since then I have been running a maison de vacances while travelling and painting around France.
Although influenced by the post impressionists, in particular the Fauvists such as Matisse, Vlaminck and Cezanne most of my work is purely intuitive, as I am mostly interested in the dynamic impression of the subject. If I could call myself anything, it would be a ‘Shadowist’, especially when working in urban and rural surroundings. Most of my work is figurative, but I also like to experiment in collage and abstract painting from time to time.
I have not exhibited in many major shows but have had several group shows in London and two or three small exhibitions in France. My work has been sold mostly to private collectors.
